| We
decided to move from the suburbs to the country in the summer of 1993.
We started out with the basic animals - chickens, cats, and dogs.
From there we expanded to cattle and sheep. Then we wanted something
different to raise.
On May 18, 1996, we acquired 8 Emu chicks. They were fun to watch
and grow. We expanded to more than 60 birds, and out of all these
birds is one special one named "Blue."
Little did we know
when we picked up "Blue" how valuable he would be. One
day when I was out doing chores, I looked in dismay. A gate didn't
get latched properly and 30 birds were out enjoying their freedom.
As fast as I was putting them back, they were escaping again.
I
noticed "Blue" pacing the end of the pen near the roaming
birds. He seemed to want to help with the birds, so I released him
and together we rounded up each and every escaped bird. Without
his help I would never have been able to capture and pen up all
those birds.
